Wild Weed Identification & Cuisine | Wednesday, July 29 | 6pm

Common garden weeds are packed with nutrients, adapted to native soil conditions and natural rainfall. Meet at Rachel’s in-town garden to identify common, edible weeds, discuss history, culture, philosophy, learn the best time to pick them, which parts are edible and how to prepare them. Learn which common weed has Omega-3 amounts to rival flax seeds; and which plant has more nutrients than spinach, though will never ask as much from you as a gardener. Learn appetizing ways to introduce these nutrient dense plants into your meals. Return to the Co-op to enjoy delicious creamy amaranth-artichoke dip as well as a diverse wild weed salad! Recipes & handouts included.

Kid’s Food Mandala Painting | Thursday, Aug 20 | 4pm

Sign your child up for this last chance art class to begin the back to school concentration process in a fun and creative way. Kids will paint mandalas, circular designs with references to life, earth, sun and moon as a symbol of wholeness and the cycle of life, much like our food. Meredith will use organic food as inspiration for kids to create their own mandalas. Fruit and veggie inspirations will be eaten supporting your child’s healthy growth and development much the way artistic mandalas are used and dispersed.
Come have fun, paint designs and enjoy organic fruit snacks to celebrate the end of summer! Art materials and snacks provided.

Meredith Rose teaches for the Durango Arts Center in the After School Art program.
She creates large scale, bright-colored figurative paintings and has two young artists herself!

DIY Safe Body Care Products Workshop | Wednesday, Aug 26 | 6pm

Make your own lotion and sunscreen! Learn to blend your own custom sunscreen and skin moisturizers using all natural products. Most of us enjoying the Colorado climate need moisturizers or sunscreen almost every day of the year. Commercial sunscreen and body lotions typically have numerous chemicals that can be harmful with excessive use. Protect your entire system rather than just lubing your skin! Nicole will discuss other clean body care product ideas as well. Quality and organic supplies are included so you can take home a sample to use right away + recipes to make your own.
Bring a small container or two for your take home samples!

Offered by Nicole Mosher, a 21 year resident of southwest Colorado and avid outdoors gal, loves to play but not to get sunburnt or dried out.
She searched high and low for less toxic ways to protect + moisturize skin and has come up with some easy recipes anyone can mix at home.
